Friends, I am on the mend from Covid, so it is time for another guest! This time, I am taking on the sports world. We’ll be going down a journey to discover how team sports, regardless of prior skill or experience, can help you move past trauma and build resilience.

Join me as I chat with Mike Myers, a retired combat Army veteran. He is one of the pioneers who brought military basketball to the world as a tool to prevent harmful behaviors.

Mike Meyers serves as the current Commissioner of the Military Basketball Association.

As a founder and volunteer head coach for over 20 years, Mike Meyers has been one of the leaders in supporting military basketball with a globally established volunteer association.

He is a retired 23-year Army combat veteran. He joined the Army in January 2000 as an enlisted Soldier with the MOS of 75B10 (Human Resources Specialist) and was commissioned in 2005 from ROTC as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Quartermaster Corps.

In 2006, Mike deployed to Iraq during the surge to support Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was medically evacuated in 2007 and uses basketball to stay resilient and build mental fitness.

Mike has contributed over 15,000 hours of volunteer service in various communities and utilizes the military basketball platform to provide active-duty service members with recreation while off duty.

In June 2017, Mike Meyers and Angel Acevedo founded the Military Basketball Association (MBA), designed to provide volunteer basketball coaches and players with an organization that promotes military athletes.

The Association is governed by its Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner, Conference Commissioner, President of Basketball Operations, and Basketball Council. It has currently accepted four Major Military Basketball Conferences, which make up a total of 44-50 volunteer varsity-level programs.
