With suicides impacting so many communities, I knew despite how difficult this subject would be to tackle, there would be no better way to share this struggle than my dear friend David Woods Bartley.

When I heard his TedTalk as I started my podcast journey, I was moved deeply on a visceral level. Suddenly, my periods of sadness, depression, loneliness, and grief finally made sense.

Join us as we discuss what led to him almost ending his life him now using his own story as a beacon of hope, healing, and understanding of this tragic event.

David has endured the early death of a parent, inherited the genetics of depression, suffered repeated sexual trauma at the hands of a trusted community leader, come face to face with the monster known as PTSD, and battled crippling depression for more than 40 years.

But in the six plus years since David was stopped from jumping to his death from the 730-foot-tall Foresthill Bridge, and his subsequent admittance into a psychiatric hospital, David has successfully navigated from the isolation of mental “hellness” to the inclusive space of mental wellness.
